It’s happening now! York Mystery Plays open at York Minster on Thursday 26 May 2016 until Thursday 30 June.
We anticipate the Waggon Plays will return in 2018.
York Mystery Plays 2016 is being staged at York Minster
Promising a “spectacular theatrical event”, the 800 year-old gothic cathedral will be transformed into a monumental auditorium between Thursday 26th May and Thursday 30th June 2016 as the Mystery Plays return to the Minster for the first time since the acclaimed Millennium production in 2000.
That production played to an audience totalling over 28,000 and featured an ensemble cast of more than 200 local community actors. Continuing with tradition, local performers will once again be at the heart of the production. Game of Thrones and Coronation Street star Philip McGinley will be taking the role of Christ in the production.
The production team has been led by director Phillip Breen, who is joined by designer Max Jones and the writer and musical director of the Millennium Mystery Plays in 2000, Mike Poulton and Richard Shephard MBE.
